My halbtax is up for renewal, so I tried to renew it online as I usually do. The SBB website sends me to the swisspass website, which needs my passport information, but can't sign me up because I'm not Swiss and I'm not from any of the 4 surrounding countries. Website tells me to go in person for renewal with passport and photos.
So this morning, I dutifully went in with photos and my passport. The lady at the Reisebüro renewed my halbtax without need to either see my photos, passport or anything else.they just renewed based on my halbtax.
What gives? Is this an online bug or something? Has anyone been able to renew their halbtax or GA online who wasn't from one of the neighbouring countries? I can't imagine this being cost effect for either the customer (picture machines cost a fortune for such adequate photos) or SBB since every renewal will now take 15 minutes of customer service time.
