The "Familientreff" Bern has opened its doors again (10th August) after the summer break.
For mothers (and fathers, if they want to visit) with children of any age (even small babies and toddlers) the Familientreff is a great place to spend some time. No entry fee.
They have a play room with lots of toys and books, a cafeteria (Monday-Friday 08:00 until 17:30, closed Sat, Sun. and school holidays), a lunch service, a free child-minding service for parents who remain in the building, and - for an incremental fee from 10Fr (1 hour) to 35Fr (4 hours) - child-minding whilst parent(s) go shopping or need to go to a meeting, lots of courses for kids and parents (gymnastics, Zumba, singing, bodyfit, yoga, outdoor visits), a playgroup etc. They also have a second-hand clothes section open during normal opening hours.
Language is not a problem, as many of the staff (including my daughter who is in charge of some of the courses) speak English.
The Familientreff is situated at Muristrasse 27 in the south-east of Bern, almost next to the Egelmösli lake and an exit of the Berner Ostring motorway.
For more information see the website www.familientreff.ch. The website is still only in German, but most menu options are fairly self-explanatory.
The team is warm and welcoming so it is well worth just popping in to check it out. You can meet new people from a variety of countries and backgrounds, and you (and your kids) can make new friends.
