Moving to Switzerland next week

mercredi 12 août 2015

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum !
I'm a British citizen and an IT professional with over 10 years of experience in my field. I quit my job in London and have decided to move to Switzerland (as I was getting many calls from recruiters based there). Till now I was not entirely sure about the work permit requirements, I always thought that as a EU national I was free to choose a job. However after reading some threads on this forum, I'm a bit confused.

My initial plan was to move there for 3 months and start applying for jobs in my field (and meanwhile just to pay my bills, do some odd jobs). But looks like its not possible. If I take up an odd job (badly paid one), I would need a 'L' type permit and which may cause issues to upgrade to 'B' type permit when I find a job in my field. Am I correct?

Suppose if I decide not to take up odd jobs and wait for a right job in my field, do I still need to register at the local canton? Can I not do it after 3 months (just to save insurance premium cost?). I've got EHIC issued in the UK (which comes with a condition that my perm residence has to be in the UK), Can I not use it for initial 3 months and then register at the local canton as a job seeker (to get jobseeker 'L' type permit)?

Regards,
Gem
