Pardon my bad introduction joke --
What do you call someone who speaks three languages?....trilingual (or Swiss).
What do you call someone who speaks two languages?....dual lingual.
What do you call someone who speaks one language? …A newly minted B permit holding blue passport only American.
I can’t believe I’m here, I got a work permit without a job, I’m not married to a Swiss (my bf is Swiss, however,) and I’m not made of francs– seriously – what are the odds! They must have been drunk when they received and approved my permit application....I hope they were because I would like to buy them a pint to celebrate!
Once the shock and awe wears off, perhaps after my first "Basel Baptism (Rhine Swim)", I’m seriously going to stuff my face with cheese and hope to mumble my through German classes trying not to smile too much or be that typical “loud American” I heard on the tramli last night.
It’s lovely to meet all of you. I already know just how much I’m going to need all of your advice in the coming days so I will preemptively say: THANK YOU with an American sized smile attached:D.
