Greetings,
I am a US citizen living in Zurich. I have recently accepted a job teaching online for an American university. They have requested an I-9 to be completed and mailed. I have visited several notary publics, however based on Swiss rules, they are not able to complete the forms as directed by my potential employer, specifically section 2 of the document. The specific directions for the I-9 form completion follow.
"Please note the new edition of the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form. This form must be submitted for your pay to be processed.
Please complete Section 1.
You will need to bring appropriate identification documents to this office to
complete Section 2. If this is not possible, you may opt to use a Notary Public.
The Notary will need to complete section 2, then sign (not stamp) the I-9. They must also complete, sign and stamp the verification letter enclosed with this packet.
Copies of the documents used for identification must be attached to the form when returning it to our office."
Has anyone else run into this problem? Was a solution ever reached?
Thank you so much for your time, and advice on this matter.
