CSC - Caisse suisse de compensation
Hi all!
Today is a great day for me after a several years that I´ve tried to contact the Swiss government about my CSC. So, I came finally to receive an answer letter by DFF from GE.
Now I´m in a little problem: I don´t have two Swiss papers to joint them for my next letter,
Le certificat de mariage et le jugement du divorce copy.
´Cause when I entered in Brazil, in 2006, I was still married. Only in 2010 I knew that I was divorced! It wasn´t my ex-husband who gave me this new and my divorce wasn´t friendly, of course.
So, how can I do to get these papers? ´cause I am always in Brazil and only Swiss papers that I have it is the Certificat de Travail from enterprises that I worked in GE.
Please, give me those informations, even if I e-mailed them for an answer.
Glowjupiter! could you help me for this case, please? or someone else? I´ll appreciate it. Sorry, I´ll need some serious informations to take necessary procedures.
Thhankkk sssssoooo muuuch, honeys.

Best pre-pay mobile plan for visiting family? (smartphone)
Sorry if this has been covered anywhere, but I couldn't find it. Has anyone recently investigated the best deal for short-term visitors to Switzerland (max 30 days)? Swisscom has some data packages but you need to be a Natel "subscriber" and it appears there's an auto-billng feature, rather than a true, pay-as-you-go plan.
Any thoughts appreciated. FWIW, this would be for an iPhone 5 or 6, and call and text aren't nearly as important as cheap data.
Thanks.

Auto repair shop with own part
On our way to Italy on holiday the a/c stopped working. We have a Nissan, took it to the local Nissan shop and they said it was the compressor that needed to be replaced. Bad news, no compressors available in all of Italy and scrapyard part wasn't an option because our model is gas and in IT they are all diesel.
Called our dealership in Aargau - same story, part not available anywhere but they can order it, which will take 1 month to arrive, for 4000 CHF. No thanks.
IT dealer gives me a link for the exact parts on eBay, we have them sent to a package forwarding company in the U.S. who has royally f-ed up and now the part will arrive in CH, instead of IT, where we can have it installed.
Our problem - can we just rock up to a garage and ask them to replace the part for us? We already know Nissan won't do it, but we are worried that other places will turn us down for liability reasons (but hey, wtf do we know about this stuff anyways?)......has anyone been in a similar "I have the part can you fix it" situation? Or can recommend a shop who could help us out?
Thanks. We leave IT for CH on Sunday - we are dreading the tunnel traffic with no aircon and two little kids in the car.....

Empfang Box/HDD Recorder
Hi all,
I'm looking for some technical advice please on "Digi-box" empfang box /HDD recorders to replace my current version that's given up the ghost.
I have WWZ as my internet and TV broadcast supplier and when I joined their ranks I was given a receiver and credit card sized card with chip. The receiver was pretty basic, offering nothing more than just the channel and what was currently being shown. Not long after, I went back to ask for a receiver that offered recording facilities as well. I was offered their only option which was a Kaon "something or other", and although they only had second hand units (returned rental stock), it did offer a pretty large internal hard drive and the ability to record 2 different programmes whilst watching a 3rd channel. As it was used, I was only charged CHF99, which has served me well. That unit has now packed in and died and would like to replace it.
Yesterday, I called into WWZ to ask if they had another, but was told they had no more, but I could rent one (different brand) within my agreement for another CHF26.50/month or I could buy a smaller receiver and simply connect an external hard drive to it for just CHF99. Got it home, got it all set up, external drive works, but as I didn't think to ask, I discovered I can only record 1 channel and whilst doing so, cannot watch anything else. Therefore, I want to get something much more suitable for my needs/wants.
I'll be straight up and honest and say I'm not a complete technophobe, but A/V kit, I'm lost in this kind of tech area.
My first question is, do I have to use the specific receiver that's offered by WWZ, or can I use a generic version?
If I can use A.N. Other brand not specific to WWZ, any ideas what I could look at as alternatives? I know what I want, but not sure I know what I need. I want a receiver that allows me to record multiple (or at least one) channel/s whilst watching another, an internal HDD would be ok, but not essential if there is an output to connect an external HDD to, and has the card slot to connect the receiver with my card/WWZ account and that's about it.
Any thoughts, advice gratefully received.
Many thanks.

Guess who's back... Zurich midweek drinks anyone?
Well, I fell out of a one way flight to Zurich yesterday, so it's official: I am back in Switzerland... and wanted to jump head first into the world class expat life style of the city with the highest quality of life, but: looks like the events I attended for years have died down?
I know a lot of the old guard have moved on, but I am surprised to see so little on here when it comes to real life meet-ups. So: Who is in for an after-work mid week drink?
As soon as I can gauge the number will I make a reservation. For the time being do I suggest the Talacker bar for the central location as well as the old times...

Can't get rid of Bluewin pop-up
I'm working on fixing FIL's computer. I have it mostly cleaned up, except when the computer first boots there is a pop-up I can't get rid of:
Bluewin DSL: Please insert your DSL disk into the CD Tray to continue installation
It seems like at one point he wanted to be on Bluewin's (now Swisscom, I think) network or something? We have no disk and neither has he. I searched for files, hidden and visible and can't find any file or program to delete to get rid of this pop-up. I searched Google and that didn't yield anything helpful either.
Any ideas?:dunno:
PS - I know it's not affecting anything major, but FIL needs as few distractions and things to click as possible so I'd like to remove it. :D

Freelancer, Client invoice payment time?
Hi English Forum
How long time can a client wait to pay their invoices? Basic freelance service. Film, video, graphics.
I have set 10 days as payment time, but non of my current clients seems to respect these 10 days?
Should i set more than 10 days or should i start pushing them to pay on time.
Regards Tom

Live in CH, work short contract in London
I moved to Zürich in January with my partner. I was hoping to find work here but haven't had much luck (I am a mechanical engineer). I have just been offered a 4 month contract with my old company in London. I am considering working there and commuting back to Zurich at the weekends. My motives are for boosting my experience and technical skills etc, rather than making lots of money, dodging tax etc.
I have only had permanent roles in the past. I'm looking for advice on the following:
- Can anyone recommend an agency in Zurich to do this with? As it is only a short contract and I don't know what I will be doing at the end of it then I don't think it would be worth setting up my own company. I need to set the contract up quickly so I think an agency would be most efficient.
- I am assuming that because it is only a short duration that I would be working in the UK that I wont need to pay UK tax, is this correct?
- I'm even sure what hourly rate would be realistic, can anyone point me in the direction of what I should expect?

Electronic transformer/adapter for Ikea 365+ BRASA reading light, Zurich
I have one of the IKEA 365+ BRASA reading light which happens to have an adapter / transformer as shown here.
The transformer got misplaced and am unable to find it on the market. I have checked with IKEA and they don't sell it as an accessory (which makes this 100 CHF reading light useless :msnmad:). I also checked with conrad, mediamarkt and jumbo in case they have something that could be useful but no luck there too.
So, if anyone has a spare one lying around due to whatever reason or has an idea how to fix this by a DIY-approach (the voltage/amp ratings are visible on the picture), please PM me. Thanks!

Fireworks in kanton AG
Do you think if there's any ban on fireworks tomorrow evening? I see there's an ban on fires within a range of 200 meters from forests. Does it include fireworks?
I was going to get some firecrackers for the kids after work but I wonder if I'll have to eat them after all.
Cheers.

SBB Inter-City pass not valid on Buses locally?
For my wife's travel between Zurich - Luzern, I got her a monthly pass from the SBB counter.
To my surprise, she informed me today that she was checked in a Bus near Oerlikon, Zurich while she was on her way to catch a train from HB and was given a ticket for CHF 75.00 by the ticket-checker saying that the SBB pass is not valid on the bus!?!
I have not had to travel inter-city so often, but earlier in the day I used to travel on a tageskarte and that covered the local transport in the destination and source cities mentioned on the pass.
daily commuters, what does your experience say?
of course, I will stop by a SBB Counter later today to get this clarified, but curious in the meanwhile

Catch 22 Swiss style
Applied to renew my Swiss passport and ID card. New biometric version means being fingerprinted in the new deluxe Zurich offices.
Holes were punched through the current, soon to be expiring, ones with the promise of the neW ones being sent by registered post in a few days.
Here's the problem: we were out when the postman called and he left one of those dreaded yellow forms advising they can be collected on Monday from the local post office with VALID indentifaction - but that's what I want to collect from the post office...

Looking Sudocrem in Zurich
Hello
We have been using SudoCrem which we took from UK during our visit. This cream is for baby nappy rash. We tried a local made, but there is no affect.
Can anybody tell from where I can buy this cream? A picture is attached.
Thank you.

Mortgage in euros - downsides?
Am thinking of buying an apartment sometime next year.
Given that the CHF seems to have hit its floor wrt the euro, and the eurozone economies are verrry slowly limping back to growth, it seems to me it would be a sensible option to look in looking to finance the mortgage in euros.
In five-ten years, if the overvaluation of the CHF goes away, am looking at paying off the mortgage faster.
Do banks offer this?
What risks am I missing?

In trouble with my assurance (cheated, need help?)
Hello my dear swissies.
I am writing to you guys, because I acutally have no clue what to do and I need some adult adversing.
In the end of 2014 I subscribed to Assura for the normal assurance package, i got the contract and everything went fine.
THEN in beginning of 2015, I arranged a meeting with the Helsana-company where an emploi comes to my house to explain me the benefits of their assurance (which actually was better than the one I already have)
- so I make an agreement, that I would change to Helsana in the beginning of next year (that meaning 2016), they sent me a contract and I sign.
But now they are sending me bills, they registred me as I submitted THIS year so now I have TWO ASSURANCES which I cannot pay and they refuse to let me cancel our contract.
Is it even allowed to have two assurances? Status quo is that I have to assurances, I can't pay, I just got to the country and I almost got the feeling that they cheated me. Do you guys have any (legal) advise? Can they do that?
I already call them and they say it's fine, they would cancel this mistake but they keep sending me more bills and refuse to cancel.
Please help, I'm confused.
With love from fribourg.

Study in Switzerland
Good day everybody
I would like to find out, as an EU citizen, what visa/permit I will be entitled to if I want to study French in Switzerland. Also, I have a Non EU spouse, will he be allowed to come with me and look for a job?
Thank you
Marina

So, what are your plans for August 1st?
Looking for inspiration here...
I was hoping to get to the mountains for the weekend, do some hiking and eat cheese-based food in honour of our host country. But the weather forecast isn't that good, and besides Trollefar has invited a colleague and his wife for dinner tonight (:msncrazy: this will be remembered and I will get revenge in due time).
Now hesitating between a "let's have a productive Saturday" plan with focus in ironing (not too hot = perfect ironing weather) and fixing a few things in the flat, or trying to plan for something interesting and festive despite the rainy forecast. With the Troll away, we din't need to worry about child-friendliness for once.
Our Swiss network is limited, and almost everyone we know is away on vacation. Besides I'm not looking for a social gathering, I just being curious as to what other foreigners do on the Swiss National Day. In our case, last year we were in Zermatt with friends and had a great time despite shaky weather. The two previous years I wasn't in CH at the time.
P.S. To the Mods and legends of this forum: still nothing to sell, if you find this post insignificant, no need to groan, just kill it.

Earn Up To 35$ Per Affiliate
Hi there, for those who never heard of bitgold affiliates, i'm gonna explain you how it works:
First of all, Bitgold is a Canadian international savings and payments service that allows people and businesses to send payments and transfers with physical gold. Their headquarters are in Toronto, Canada.
It's like a Paypal with Gold that you can also buy.
They created an affiliate program that will pay you up to 35$ per signup(depending on the country) through your link. The interesting fact here, is that it's a 10min free signup.
Here is their Geo based CPA:
They pay each 1-5 of every month directly to you personal bitgold account, and from there you can withdraw using Bank Wire, Physical Gold and Prepaid Master Card/Bitcoin soon.
So to apply for the affiliate program, you will need:
1°) A personal BitGold Account:
- Ref: Here
- Non Ref: Here
2°) An Affiliate Bitgold account:
- Ref: Here
- Non Ref: Here
Once you've done that, just wait 2-3 days to get your affiliate account accepted by them and go get your tracking link and share it wherever you want to start earning those commissions.
You can find your tracking link by clicking on Offers -> Live Offers -> Completed Account (Geography based CPA) it looks like this: http://ift.tt/1OEJMDO
I think that, now, you are good to go.

Moving from UK to Zurich - UPS
Hello,
I live in London and in September I'll start working in Zurich.
I don't really have a lot of stuffs here: some clothes, a foldable bike and some kitchen stuffs (a couple of pans, dishes, glasses, etc).
Apparently there are 3 ways to move all my stuffs:
- moving company: prices from 700£
- renting a car: driving to zurich, then back to london and then plane. Price unknown at the moment.
- UPS (or similar): box everything and send via UPS. Price will be <500£ excluding Swiss border taxes which I don't know how they can calculate. Did anyone try to move using UPS or similar?
Thanks!

L permit, Illness, Special Case
This is a somewhat complex case ...
In July 2013, I started working for my ex-employer with an L permit. Work was tough and environment became hostile due to company politics and ill management. I developed into depression and was troubled by it for more than a year.
Finally I decided to leave the company, part of the reason was upon my doctor's suggestion. He gave me the sick leave certificate for several weeks. The contract was terminated at end of June 2015, only 15 days prior to the 2 year limit of L.
After a couple of months of recovery with family, I felt much better and found a new job. The new employer was trying to get me a new permit L/B but the government declined it, as many threads in the forum reported, L permit holders could not change job unless being laid off.
I was asking the ex-employer for help, but no surprise, they don't give a f**k. It took a month and many emails, calls, talks and begging to get a one-page "arbeitszeugnis" but they insisted that the "Vollzeugnis" must clearly state that I terminated the contract for whatever reason.
Finally, by showing them that by law they're obliged to issue one, I got a short "Teilzeugnis" which only describes duration of employment and nature of work. But my new employer was afraid that it was not enough to support the case.
I know that I should have resigned after having my permit turned into a B, but I was suffering due to the company for too long ...
Could anyone provide some suggestion?

Net curtains
Hello
I need to buy some net curtains for a new apartment. The landlord has already installed "tracks" on the ceiling above the windows for the curtains to hang from.
I found these on Ikea but I can't tell whether these are suitable or are intended to hang from a rail.
http://ift.tt/1DcUPUo
Has anybody whose got these "tracks" know whether you can use any curtains you like or have to buy specific type?
Thanks.

Incorrectly denied supplementary health insurance - but complex background
Hello,
Not a new member but I wanted to anonymise a problem I have given the highly personal nature. I have Mod approval for this temporary duplicate account.
I am a bit surprised to have just been denied supplementary health insurance because I am deemed "high risk", even though I am in my late 20s and the truthful answer to all the questions on the questionnaire was that I lead a healthy lifestyle and have not required treatment for anything significant in the past several years. The insurance company has given the reason that my BMI is too low, which on paper, it is. Except this is my natural, healthy weight. Anyone who has met me knows that I am built like a bird, and I'm sporty and strong enough to go on 9 hour alpine pass hikes and (before I recently moved) do a good 6 hours of intensive exercise a week. If this were the full story, it would be easy and I would, as advised by the company, simply write a letter back explaining my current health is tip top. Which it is!
Except that's not quite the full story.
In my late teens I suffered from a severe eating disorder which involved hospital treatment. I have had confirmed recently that I have absolutely no lasting health effects from it. However, I have had a couple of scary relapses since (though neither led to health issues, just was close to the weight I know they could reemerge), and even though I have been completely well for a few years now, I would not be comfortable stating that it (needing treatment) could never happen again.
I am concerned that the possibility of an eating disorder is what the insurance company are alluding to. Even though, as I mentioned, the truthful answer is that my current BMI is completely natural and the questionnaire in the specified time horizon does not require me to disclose my past. However, I'm worried that if I ever present with a relapse again, or something that can be traced as being a consequence, I'll still be deemed to have lied by omission and have all my cover invalidated - against even anything unrelated. So I am wondering if I should volunteer the information.
Potential benefits:
- I was fully discharged from care at my current BMI. So lends proof to my claim that I am extremely healthy now
- I could argue for excluding the eating disorder as pre existing, but I should get supplementary cover for anything else - at least it's clear cut
- conscience
Potential issues:
- they don't buy my claim to be healthy today given my history and class me definitively high risk and I get nothing
- my current weight is unrelated to the history, even if it may be perceived as such
Does any of that even make sense? I am a bit worked up and a bit stuck. I'm not sure I'm thinking logically as this brings back memories I had archived. Advice would be appreciated.
:(

Flowergirl and page boy attire
Hi, Fashionistas and Crafters,
1. Can you recommend a store with nice clothing for special occasions, with a good selection for kids?
2. How about a fabric store on par with the one on this website http://ift.tt/1fLKXWH but closer to Zurich/Baden/Basel and even on the German or French side if you know any. Public transport is my friend for now, and it would take me 2.5 hours to get to them. :)
Thank you very much!

HANG and violin BBQ -Daniel Waples + Flavio Lopez
Daniel Waples, from London, perhaps the best HANG player in the world, and his friend Flavio Lopez, from Barcelona, a brilliant violinist- will be playing in a field behind the Church. Bring a blanket and your own meat to BBQ on a large BBQ which will be ready and kept going a salad or a pud to share, a bottle (coffee and tea + cordials will be available)- and enjoy.
I know, a Tuesday evening is not ideal, but this is all we can get, between Daniel and Flavio's gigs in Budapest and Amsterdam- so hope some of you can come. This is a very rare opportunity to hear those 2 play. They've toured the USA and Italy this Summer- and are now at a festival in Blackpool. Concert is free, but donations would be very welcome to cover their travel costs- a hat will be passed round throughout the evening.
Pm for info about possibilities to spend the night nearby- cheap but nice hôtels and B&Bs available nearby- possibility to pitch up a tent or park a motorhome.
